LNG power refitting of the world's first large container ship started at China Resources Dadong, Shanghai, a Chinese shipyard
Recently, the LNG power modification project of the world's first super large container ship was started in Shanghai China Resources Dadong, a Chinese shipyard.
According to the official information of Shanghai China Resources Dadong Shipping Engineering Co., Ltd., on the afternoon of August 31, 15000 large container ships from Germany successfully docked at the company's No. 7 wharf, ready to install LNG dual fuel tanks. By then, 15000 containers will be put into operation with the power of LNG environmental protection fuel, and the operation cost will be effectively reduced.
According to Xinde maritime network, the ship to be transformed is named sajir (built in 2014, 14993teu), which is operated by German container shipping company Herbert. The owner company and ship management company are also Herbert.
It is understood that although similar LNG power conversion has been carried out on a container ship before, this nearly 150000teu container ship is the first large-scale ship with LNG dual fuel tank installed in the world. It is understood that the project costs about 30 million US dollars.
China Resources big Oriental said that the project process is complex, high technical requirements, is the industry's attention project.
The refitting work of the ship will mainly include the installation of a 6500 cubic meter GTT LNG fuel tank. The fuel tank is 13 meters long, 46 meters wide and 21.6 meters high. It is composed of 17 sections, of which the DS01 dome base is 6 meters long and 5 meters wide. The main difficulty lies in the accuracy control of block production and general assembly, which requires high requirements.
The project was originally planned to start in May this year, but due to the impact of the epidemic, the start-up period was slightly delayed.
China Resources greater Oriental also introduced that the project started in October last year, and all departments participating in manufacturing engineering worked together to overcome many technical difficulties. Although the sudden epidemic situation has seriously affected the progress of manufacturing engineering, all departments have made timely response and adjusted the construction plan to ensure that the nodes are pushed forward on schedule.
China Resources greater Oriental said that the company's scientific and technological innovation, optimization process, the world's first LNG membrane fuel tank integrated block one-time lifting scheme, significantly saving the refitting time and manufacturing costs. At present, the LNG dual fuel tank project has entered the final sprint stage. It is expected that by the end of December, the LNG dual fuel tank modification project of 15000 large container ships will be completed.
It is understood that the project is a pilot project that Herbert hopes to reduce emissions and comply with more stringent requirements of the international maritime organization.
In addition to the installation of new fuel tanks, the ship's fuel system and the existing man diesel engine will also be replaced by dual fuel engines, and the ship will be able to use both liquefied natural gas and low sulfur fuel oil.
Herbert took over sajir after acquiring UASC in 2017. The 16 sister ships of the ship also meet the requirements of LNG ready and can accept similar modification.
A large number of LNG powered ships will appear this year
This year is likely to be the first complaint of the VLCC in many aspects. In addition to the first LNG powered modification of large container ships described in this paper, we will see the formal delivery of two new LNG powered large container ships.
For example, the CMA CGM Jacques Saade, a 23000 TEU vessel owned by the French Da Fei steamer CMA CGM, will be delivered this month. After delivery, the ship will become the largest LNG powered container ship in the world. The ship will be put into operation in the main trunk lines of Asia and Europe, and will use a LNG fuel ship named gas agility, which is a cooperation between mol and total, to carry out LNG fuel filling.
In addition to CMA CGM Jacques Saade, Dafei has also ordered 8 sister ships in Shanghai East China and Jiangnan, which will be delivered one after another.
